Photolog: Kuala Lumpur Streets and Markets

From a tin-mining shanty town in 1857 to a bustling modern metropolis of the 21st century, Kuala Lumpur is a cultural melting pot of around 1.8 million with a rich history and vibrant past. The city has seen a big transformation due to economic boom in the 90’s but retained its historical identity so you can see a blend of modern sophistication and traditional lifestyle side by side. Kuala Lumpur has some of Southeast Asia’s largest shopping malls and is considered a retails paradise for shoppers.

From skyscrapers to hawker stalls this city has everything for everyone.

This photolog feature is part of several where I’ll be covering various aspects of the day to day city life from streets to markets and beyond.

‘Photolog’ is a new series of posts with predominant focus on photographs rather than text. I’ll be posting a selection of images from my photographic endeavors that are mostly around travel, nature, landscape and urban photography.

Starting with one of the world’s greatest museums of human history and culture the British Museum London. Its permanent collection, numbering some eight million works, is amongst the finest, most comprehensive, and largest in existence and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.

The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. The museum first opened to the public on 15 January 1759 in Montagu House in Bloomsbury, on the site of the current museum building. Its expansion over the following two and a half centuries was largely a result of an expanding British colonial footprint and has resulted in the creation of several branch institutions, the first being the British Museum (Natural History) in South Kensington in 1887… more

Galapagos – through the lens of iPhone 4S

Hard to believe that this small short by Miguel Endara is done through iPhone 4s! A brilliant device for capturing video but even more brilliant the person behind who used it in such a way.

Thoroughly impressed with the quality and stability of the iPhone 4S. Video briefly documents the amazing 2 week honeymoon/adventure in the Galapagos with the lovely wife, Lily Vidal.

Life without Lights by Peter DiCampo

Life without Lights is a photography project by Boston, MA based photographer Peter DiCampo who got the idea for this project while working as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana from 2006-2008.

I realized how deeply the lack of electricity affected the lives of my neighbors. It impeded their progress in the sectors of health, education, gender equality, agriculture, and virtually every aspect of development.

With a goal to publish these stories and creating a wider awareness of this issue, he recently raised funding for this project on Kickstarter.com. Besides, Peter DiCampo has been given a rare opportunity to exhibit his work at the 2012 UN International Year of Sustainable Energy for All conference and at Rio+20 to address audiences of policymakers and world leaders, sharing stories from the people he photographed.

At a time of constant debate over the future of energy, it is easy to forget that 1.4 billion people – nearly a quarter of humanity – still live without access to electricity. Through my Life Without Lights photography, I strive to reveal the economic impact of global Energy Poverty while exploring energy’s future.

I began this project while living in rural northern Ghana, where I realized how deeply the lack of electricity affected the lives of my neighbors: It impeded their progress in the sectors of health, education, gender equality, agriculture, and virtually every aspect of development. Since then, I’ve photographed people living in a state of Energy Poverty on top of the vast oil reserves of Kurdistan, and just outside of Albuquerque, the largest city in the US state of New Mexico.

Last look at the Himalayas by Off-Road Studios

Interesting piece of work highlighting the plight of Himalayas due to global warming by Off-Road Studios. It will be great to watch full length documentary.

Off-Road Studios is an integrated communications agency taking care of 360 media requirements of its clients while fulfilling its social and environmental responsibilities at the same time.

For several years, evidence has been mounting that the global climate is steadily getting warmer. As a result the melting glaciers are constantly undressing the majestic snow covered peaks of Himalayas. Last Look at the Himalayas is an environmental conservation documentary by Off-Road Studios, aiming to capture what’s left and promote the struggle against global warming.
