Galapagos – through the lens of iPhone 4S

Under - Geography, Industrial Design, Inspiration, Media, Nature, Technology

Hard to believe that this small short by Miguel Endara is done through iPhone 4s! A brilliant device for capturing video but even more brilliant the person behind who used it in such a way.

Thoroughly impressed with the quality and stability of the iPhone 4S. Video briefly documents the amazing 2 week honeymoon/adventure in the Galapagos with the lovely wife, Lily Vidal.

Multi-touch watch kits for iPod Nano

Under - Design, Industrial Design, Technology

This is brilliant, transform your iPod Nano into the world’s coolest multi-touch watches with TikTok and LunaTik by Scott Wilson and MINIMAL.

The idea to use the Nano as a watch was an obvious one ever since the product was announced. But we wanted to create a collection that was well designed, engineered and manufactured from premium materials and that complemented the impeccable quality of Apple products. Not just clipped on a cheap strap as an afterthought.

The project has raised over $390,000 on Kickstarter.com from over 5000 backers and there are still 20 more days to go.

Update 17/12/2010: The total amount raised is under a million ($941,558) dollars from 13,510 backers which is a record on Kickstarter.com. Interestingly the goal was to raise $15,000.

You can pre-order one here.

Ora-Ïto: Industrial Design at its best

Under - Industrial Design, Inspiration

Some selected furniture designed by Ito Morabito.

Behind the Ora-Ïto brand is a creative young French designer (Ito Morabito) whose provocative ideas ensured his rapid ascent to the very top of the design world. At the beginning of his career he presented his designs and ideas for the virtual products, undersigned by known brands on his own website. People began ordering products which did not exist. Large companies like Louis Vuitton, Swatch, Apple and Levi’s, could have sued the young pretender but were so impressed by his designs, that they hired him instead.

Ayrton

Ora-Ïto characterizes his recognizable style as simplexity; combining simplicity and complexity. His concepts are futuristic and provocative. Today, he designs for the world’s biggest brands, such as Heineken, Adidas, Ogo, Artemide, B&B, Cappellini, L’Oréal, Toyota, LaCie, Danone, Christofle, Ballantine’s, Sagem and many more.

iPad – actually it is an e-book reader …

Under - Industrial Design, My Musings, Technology

… disguised as a netbook or may be a formidable hybrid of both! But, with iPad Apple has defined a new category of products that many going to follow in coming days. With the revelation of iBookstore, it is foreseeable where the whole game plan is leading to.

Apple iPad

iPad is an amplified version of iPhone but without a phone that is going to run all iPhone apps. It is an excellent alternate to netbooks and thin enough to be used as e-reader. As an e-reader, iPad is way advanced than what we are currently familiar with in the form of Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader. As mentioned earlier in a different context, this device has the potential of becoming an ultimate e-reader and PMP.

Apple iPad

Smartphones are excellent but still small enough to be used as practical devices for everyday use. With iPad, Apple has successfully combined several products in one. Many would struggle to fit this product into the current hierarchy of consumer electronics but I see it clearly replacing conventional laptops, tablets and netbooks.

What future holds from Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader – I don’t know but I’m sure for one thing that iPad, when wrapped in leather, is a clear invitation to Microsoft Courier to enter into the ring with caution.

Oh geez – it’s hurting!

Under - Media, Technology

The latest series of Microsoft’s ‘Laptop Hunters‘ ads are really hurting Apple!

Some are suggesting otherwise though.
