This abstract short is a creation of Hamburg/Germany based motion graphics designer Silke Sieler.

A short abstract movie dealing with nature and maritime creatures, metamorphosis and transformation – it connects art and science. Strong emphasis on sound, related to the idea of visual music. The Style is soft but clean, focussing on black & white.

I studied media design at University of Applied Sciences in Mainz and this is my diploma thesis – it´s not the official musicvideo.

Richard Mosse and a desire to rewrite traumatic cultural histories

Undoubtedly, some of the best short-films I’ve seen lately came from Richard Mosse. Born and grew up in Ireland he is now based in New York. Mosse studied at Yale, Goldsmiths and the London Consortium. He is driven by an ambivalence toward photography and a desire to revisit and even rewrite traumatic cultural histories.

Cast Lead

Shot in the ruins of Gaza and the West Bank, August 2009. Cast Lead, the IDF codename for the Gaza war of 2009, is a term derived from Haim Nachman Bialik’s Hannukah poem about a game played with a spinning dreidel made of lead.

Souffleur

In an article written several years ago, Robert Fisk referred to the wreck of a Nazi-allied Vichy French U-Boat which lies beneath the waves off the coast of Beirut. The submarine was called Le Souffleur, and was sunk in 1941 by British destroyers which had followed it up the coast from Palestine.

Souffleur was made in sixteen hours as part of the 98 weeks workshop, Beirut, September 2008.

Theatre of War

Shot in Saddam Hussein’s hilltop palace in the mountains overlooking the River Tigris, Theatre of War is a slow, virtually static video piece redolent of classical history painting. Audio was recorded at the official US military hand-over ceremony at the nearby city of Saniya. A mullah’s prayer for unity among Arabs is spoken, after which the pan-Arab national anthem, Mawtini (My Homeland) is played, emphasizing Arab national solidarity and a pan-Arab territory. Made in Iraq in March 2009.

Egypt and Lebanon Montage

Egypt and Lebanon montage by Khalid Mohtaseb.

This is a montage of footage a few friends and I shot for a Documentary during the summer/fall of 2009.

The documentary was shot entirely on the canon 5D MKll in and around Cairo and Beirut. Big ups to Magic Lanterns Firmware update, as well as the Kessler Pocket Dolly for being a huge help in making this happen.

The enticing inner world of Daniel Egnéus

Lucid, dreamy and vibrant illustrations reflect the enticing inner world of highly regarded artist, Daniel Egnéus. With no formal education except for life itself, Daniel sees everyday life and art as one inseparable whole.

He is the inventor of the style called “Quotidiano-Straordinario” and his work is an expression of his colorful and rich life in Milano and Rome, filled with friends and a wonderful girlfriend, and not least his daydreaming, which finds its way into his work, inspiring us with its beauty and depth.

Born in 1972 in Sweden, Daniel has spent 20 years in Prague, London, Berlin, Bologna and Rome, and has now made Milano his base. A prolific artist, he has had successful collaborations with clients such as Haagen-Dasz, BMW, Pepsi Cola, Marie Claire, Time Magazine and Penguin Books to name a few.
