The wonderful world of watercolor maestro Alexander Votsmush (P-1)

Under - Art, Illustration, Inspiration

This is by far the most impressive watercolor artwork that I’ve seen. The artist is nothing but a genius and a living legend. I never have seen or experienced his kind of watercolour on paper which is full of life, energy, depth, narrative and humour in some cases. It is impossible to fully put down feelings into words. Votsmush’s grip on the medium, mood, subject and overall context in every single piece is mesmerising making you feel as if it is not painted on paper with a paint brush but with a magical wand.

Alex Votsmush lives partly in Russia and partly in Ukraine. I wanted to share more here about him but due to the language barrier I had to confine myself to what I could get from him.

I wasn’t able to fit Votsmush’s work into one post therefore covering it into three separate posts so keep watching the space.

Joshua Suda and the broad street of realism

Under - Art, Illustration, Inspiration

These incredibly ultra-photorealistic paintings are an intimate blend of fantasy and reality, blurring the line between life and art. Eyes, torn paper, ripped photographs, frames and engaging expressions, Josh Suda’s work is inviting with everlasting impressions.

He currently works in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, USA and is one of the founding members of The Broad Street Studio, an artist group dedicated to showcasing and promoting realism with tooth.

A Timelapse Journey with Nature

Under - Art, Inspiration, Media, Nature, Photography

This timelapse showreel is a collection of some of the best Nature moments that Henry Jun Wah Lee captured from 2009 to present.

I grew up in the city — a world constructed of steel, concrete and asphalt. My view of the night sky was the moon and the handful of stars bright enough to outshine the glow of city lights.

My understanding of nature was limited to what I could find at local gardens, parks and zoos. As a kid I never saw the Milky Way with my own eyes. Just on sci-fi television and in books and magazines. My encounters with wild animals were limited to squirrels and pigeons in the city (if those even count as wild).

In 2009, I set out to film nature to share with urban dwellers who, like me, have never ventured outside the routines and comforts of cities. It’s now been two years, many amazing trips, and countless incredible experiences. This film is a compilation of the many highlights captured during this time.

An early winter afternoon photo shoot at Virginia Water Lake which lies within Windsor Great Park. The lake is mostly in Surrey county, though the western extremities are in the civil parishes of Old Windsor and Sunninghill and Ascot in Berkshire, England.

According to Wikipedia the shores of the lake have recently been used for lakeside scenes in the Harry Potter films. You can view the complete set at Flickr.

Paintings and illustrations by Valentina Brostean

Under - Art, Design, Illustration, Inspiration

Heavily inspired by urban culture and the pop surrealism movement, Valentina Brostean has developed a unique and very personal style. She has an eye for the strange beauty in the grotesqueries of life. Inspired by the relationship between dreams, natural world and the emptiness of consumer culture, she creates and brings unique characters to life from her imaginary world.

Her body of work is built of melancholy interaction between man-made status symbols and frozen moments of the utopian childhood memories. Strongly focused on figurative narration her characters simply reflect us – modern society without its masks, without the fake presentations that make us acceptable to whatever group we are a part of.

If look closely at her work, one might come to realize that her characters are really kind of self-portraits, set in a fantastical landscapes of imaginary world which echoes of her own… a bitter, yet sweetly coated prescription for modern life.

Valentina has been invited to participate in collaborative art projects all around the world in diverse solo and group gallery shows. She has more than ten years of experience with several agencies doing illustration projects, print and educational work. She is now working as independent artist focusing on her personal expression through painting and collaborating with talented people on various projects – anything where she can apply her creativity. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines for visual culture.

Fireworks at Datchet Cricket Club

Under - Art, Inspiration, My Musings, Photography, Photolog

Every year in November a bonfire and fireworks spectacle takes place at Datchet Cricket Club, Datchet (Berkshire, England). Datchet is a small English Thameside village situated just outside Windsor.

Contrary to my Upton Court Fireworks photography, I went for a different approach to capture fireworks flares, flashes and explosions in this shoot which resulted in rather abstract and surreal light painting.

I took these pictures a while back but have not been able to share online before so here we go now.
