Marley & Me – Grogan’s done it better

Under - Literature, Media

I read John Grogan’s best-seller novel Marley & Me around three years ago and liked it very much. I had the same expectations from the movie but it completely disappointed me and my wife when last night we eventually got to watch it.

marley-and-me

Those who have read this novel have a completely different view of the movie. The book is about Marley (the world’s worst dog) and Grogan’s life around Marley – not about Grogan and his wife and their life with Marley. The presence of the two A rated actors (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston) overshadowed the whole story, their characters looked overwhelmingly stronger than the main subject – Marley.

The overall dramatization of the novel was also a bit commercially spiced up that didn’t go well with the story. Those who are still planning to watch this movie I’d suggest don’t bother – it’s better to read the novel and you wouldn’t miss a thing.

JPG – all about photography

JPG Magazine

JPG Magazine

JPG Magazine has over 224,000 photographers submitting their work online. The magazine then features best voted pictures in their print version. Interesting concept to keep both worlds happy – isn’t it?

Good to see this magazine back on track after a sad shutdown in January 2009 as it couldn’t sustain itself due to extraordinary economic times (why this always has to happen to good projects!). The team at JPG even put all the past issues online then for free download as the site was also going to be closed with a sad note:

We wish we could have found a way to leave the site running for the benefit of the amazing folks who have made JPG what it is, and we have spent sleepless nights trying to figure something out, all to no avail.

With a comeback by some angle investor after four months in May this year, JPG is simply flourishing.

Yet another ugliest car!

Under - Design, Industrial Design

SsangYong Actyon

I haven’t been fully recovered from Fiat Multipla yet that I saw SsangYong Actyon on the road the other day. I was in complete denial and shock that this could be a car at all! Look at this Sino-Korean monster and you would truly believe that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder as SsangYong Actyon has nothing to do with it.

I’m not amazed to learn that nobody wants this car even on its own turf.
