Design strategy for Eileen Fisher by IDEO

Under - Advertising, Design, Media

IDEO is an award-winning global design firm that takes a human-centered, design-based approach to helping organizations in the public and private sectors innovate and grow. Eileen Fisher contacted IDEO when they found out that retaining their customer base is becoming a challenge for the brand.

Since its launch in a small East Village boutique 25 years ago, New York-based clothing design and manufacturer Eileen Fisher has enjoyed consistent growth and robust success. The brand now has a national presence, selling in more than 40 company retail stores, online, and to major department stores. Its success is due to the company’s design philosophy and its loyal customers.

Eileen Fisher was doing steady business, but the brand no longer attracted the customers who had sought it out in the beginning: women in their 30s and 40s with blossoming careers and busy families who wanted beautifully crafted yet highly functional clothes. Instead, these women regarded Eileen Fisher as their mothers’ brand, despite the fact that its design evolution was more relevant than ever to this younger demographic, as well as to its core customers.

Paintings and illustrations by Valentina Brostean

Under - Art, Design, Illustration, Inspiration

Heavily inspired by urban culture and the pop surrealism movement, Valentina Brostean has developed a unique and very personal style. She has an eye for the strange beauty in the grotesqueries of life. Inspired by the relationship between dreams, natural world and the emptiness of consumer culture, she creates and brings unique characters to life from her imaginary world.

Her body of work is built of melancholy interaction between man-made status symbols and frozen moments of the utopian childhood memories. Strongly focused on figurative narration her characters simply reflect us – modern society without its masks, without the fake presentations that make us acceptable to whatever group we are a part of.

If look closely at her work, one might come to realize that her characters are really kind of self-portraits, set in a fantastical landscapes of imaginary world which echoes of her own… a bitter, yet sweetly coated prescription for modern life.

Valentina has been invited to participate in collaborative art projects all around the world in diverse solo and group gallery shows. She has more than ten years of experience with several agencies doing illustration projects, print and educational work. She is now working as independent artist focusing on her personal expression through painting and collaborating with talented people on various projects – anything where she can apply her creativity. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines for visual culture.

Here comes the first smartwatch: i’mWatch

Under - Design, Industrial Design, Technology

We have seen the multi-touch watch kits (TikTok and LunaTik) for iPod Nano that came to life a while back. Now comes world’s first smartwatch: i’mWatch.

At first I thought of it as another iPod nano watch kit – something similar to TikTok and LunaTik if not exactly the same but it is not an-iPod-in-a-new-kit and the software is based on Android:

The most common operating system in the world with performances never seen before on such a small device. Intuitive interface, rock-solid stability and amazing functionalities. The operating system is the heart of i’mWatch. A surprising result that will leave you lost for words. It only takes a few steps to learn how to use it: it is simple and intuitive. Just touch, drag, swipe or pinch to use all the functionalities or open any of the apps, preinstalled or downloadable from i’mstore.

i’mWatch displays time both analogue and digital formats. It can receive calls showing caller’s name and number and enables you to decide whether to accept or decline a call without reaching to your phone on the pocket. It can be used as speaker phone, view/receive text and email messages, check weather forecast, and catch-up (via notifications) with friends on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare besides listening to music and watching photos of your loved ones.

i’mWatch is touch enabled and multitasking. It comes with 1.54” (diagonal) colour TFT display with 240×240 pixel resolution (220 pixel per inch), 64MB RAM and 4GB Flash Drive. It has built-in 3.5 mm headphone, connection and power minijack, microphone and a speaker. The watch is compatible with iPhone 4, Android devices and Black Berry with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR wireless technologies. The watch is available in variety of colors and as jewelry with – designed and assembled in Italy.
