Liz Collini Typography

Under - Art, Design, Typography

Some incredible typography by London based artist Liz Collini.

I make different forms of texts using simple but often ambiguous words and phrases, mostly through printmaking and drawing. The written word holds many paradoxes, not least those of absence and presence. There are gaps and overlaps between reading and viewing, text and image, the hand and the machine. I try to create breathing spaces in which we can pause and look back at language. Whole narratives can be compressed into a single word or familiar phrase. The drawings’ resemblance to plans and blueprints reflects the strange provisionality of written language; the things about which we write are always elsewhere. I work only with Times New Roman (the default font) and my own handwriting to minimise questions of typography.

Lectori Salutem by Jeroen Verhoeven

Under - Art, Design, Industrial Design, Inspiration

Lectori Salutem (Polished stainless steel) – 2010

Jeroen Verhoeven fuses the fantastical with the functional to create design pieces of fragile beauty, wrought by technological and industrial production. The narratives of enchantment and innocence in Verhoeven’s works (as well as in the pieces made by his design firm Demakersvan) are achieved through an intensive method involving computer-generated models, machine manufacture, and the artist’s own hands.

Video painting by Sweatshoppe

Under - Art, Design, Media, Technology

New media art duo SWEATSHOPPE aka Blake Shaw and Bruno Levy are back from Europe with a new video that showcases their live interactive video wheatpaste in Berlin, Bristol, Belgrade, London and Paris. Over a two week period the duo pasted their videos in over 10 spots including the Berlin Wall, Les Invalides, Cordy House and even constructed a 5 meter telescopic electronic paint roller to create a two-story tall video painting in Bristol.

Video painting is a technology the duo developed that allows them to create the illusion that they are painting videos onto walls with electronic paint rollers they built. It works through custom software that they wrote that tracks the position of the paint rollers and projects video wherever they choose to paint, allowing them to explore the relationship between video, mark making and architecture and create live video collages in real time.
